IntegriCulture and Sumitomo Riko Enter Strategic Partnership to make “Democratization of Cellular Agriculture” global
Launching Production Demonstrations in Singapore with “Oxy-thru Cultivator™” Aiming for 2026 Regulatory Approval
March 3rd, 2026 – IntegriCulture Inc. (Headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yuki Hanyu), a cellular agriculture pioneer, and Sumitomo Riko Company Limited (Headquarters: Nakamura-ku, Nagoya; President & CEO: Kazushi Shimizu) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a strategic partnership.
Under this agreement, the companies will begin demonstrating production processes using avian cells in Singapore, with the goal of filing for regulatory approval within 2026. Additionally, they will jointly launch a domestic contract manufacturing service to expand IntegriCulture’s Cellular Agriculture CRDMO (Contract Research, Development, and Manufacturing Organization) business.
Innovative “Scale-Out” Technology: Oxy-thru Cultivator™
A key highlight of this partnership is the use of the “Oxy-thru Cultivator™,” a 2L cell culture bag co-developed within the CulNet® Consortium—IntegriCulture’s open innovation platform for cellular agriculture infrastructure.
By merging Sumitomo Riko’s proprietary high-gas-permeable materials and precision molding technologies with IntegriCulture’s low-cost cultivation expertise, the bag achieves high-efficiency production of 1 kg per month per bag (including scaffolds).
While the industry currently struggles with the massive initial investment and maintenance costs of large-scale bioreactors (scale-up model), the Oxy-thru Cultivator™ enables a “scale-out” production model. It requires no external oxygen injection devices and functions simply by being placed inside an incubator, offering significant advantages in cost reduction, risk mitigation, and flexible production.
Activities in Singapore
In Singapore, IntegriCulture will collaborate with local manufacturing partner Cell AgriTech Pte. Ltd. to validate and launch commercial production processes. These operations will utilize food-grade ingredients, including IntegriCulture’s basal medium “I-MEM 1.0”. Data collected from these demonstrations will be used to support the regulatory application to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) by the end of 2026.
To date, we have been advancing the development and design of production processes in Japan. With the launch of activities in Singapore, we will further accelerate our path toward industrialization and aim to build a sustainable food production system.
